ECSIEP Office Terminated

As of 1 May 2007 the office of the European Centre on Pacific Issues (ECSIEP) in the Netherlands is permanently closed. This website which contains a lot of information on the Pacific and EU-Pacific relationships will however remain active and accessible for another 5 years until 2012. Its content will however not be updated. With the closure of ECSIEP, one of the very few offices in Europe dedicated to the Pacific cause will disappear. You can however contact the German Pacific information desk for more up to date information on the Pacific: http://www.pazifik-infostelle.org

Termination ECSIEP office

In its meeting on the 25th of October, the board of the European Centre on Pacific Issues (ECSIEP) has decided to phase out the operation of the ECSIEP secretariat. As a consequence, the office will not engage in new activities and will look for alternatives for some of its current engagements and responsibilities. It is envisaged that the office will finally close its doors in the first months of 2007.

Welcome to the website of ECSIEP!
Image The European Centre on Pacific Issues (ECSIEP) has been the secretariat of the Europe Pacific Solidarity Network from 1992 until April 2007. ECSIEP served as an information centre on developments in the Pacific and acted as an interface between Pacific civil society and European organisations and institutions.
The Europe Pacific Solidarity (EPS) Network was established by European NGOs and church organisations working on peace, environmental and development issues in the Pacific. Since 1989, the Europe Pacific Solidarity network organises annual seminars at which activists of the network meet and discuss the current developments in the Pacific and their involvement. Through ECSIEP and its contacts in Europe and the Pacific, continuity was brought into the European Pacific work. ECSIEP maintained contact with churches and NGOs in the Pacific and supported their campaigns and activities. ECSIEP worked on issues in which a clear link between Europe and the Pacific was visible. Projects and campaigns addressed issues like French nuclear testing, climate change, sustainable forestry, the ACP-EU partnership agreements and the involvement of civil society in this process, mining, sustainable development and conflicts.
